You are probably familiar with phrases like “the winter blues” – talking about the winter months when you have a feeling of being down in the dumps for no particular reason. The doctors even have a name for it. It’s called the “Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).” Maybe you even are losing interest in the general joys of life, such as food, sports and (unfortunately) sex! .
Now that summer is fully with us, here are a few thoughts on how you can boost those lagging interests – most particularly, on what you can do to get your sex drive into top gear. The secret for many men is to boost the levels of testosterone in the bloodstream, and there are many ways that you can do this. After all, once winter is out of the way, the “mating season” usually gets into full swing amongst the birds and the bees, and the main trigger for this is a sudden upswing in testosterone levels in the males. The very same thing should be happening for you, as long as you allow nature to take its course.
1. Get enough, and the right kind, of sleep
Hormones play a vital role in how you feel, both emotionally and physically. Two hormones that are antagonistic are melatonin, the one that makes you feel sleepy in the evening, and testosterone, the essential hormone that creates the sex drive. If you don’t get enough quality sleep, then there will be residues of melatonin left over when you wake, and testosterone won’t operate properly. If you stay up too late, or only go to sleep when you are exhausted, then the quality of the sleep will be poor, you will wake up tired, and unlikely to be able to function optimally.
2. Reduce stress
As in the case of sleep, where hormones are competing, stress raises the levels of cortisol, which is a hormone vital in normal metabolism. However, elevated levels of cortisol will affect testosterone levels negatively. If you are under severe stress, you likely will have substantially decreased testosterone levels.
3. Eat a balanced diet
Especially if you are eating a diet overloaded with unhealthy oils and fats, you may be impacting on the levels and effectiveness of your general sex life in multiple ways. Overweight people are generally measuring lower on testosterone and reporting dissatisfaction. Athletes and people who are very active are training themselves to intake a healthy balance of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. This will keep hormone levels balanced and of course it will promote better long-term health.
4. Keep active
It’s a simple relationship. The more active you are, the more testosterone you will have, unless there is some underlying cause. But keep it balanced, because extreme and stressing exercise may throw your body’s metabolism out of whack. An example is when over-exertion can lead to extreme sweating, which will thicken the blood and cause some essential minerals like zinc and magnesium to be lost. At the very least, if you are into hard and prolonged exercise like marathon running or distance swimming, then make sure to drink lots of water, during and afterwards, and maybe take basic supplements to get zinc and magnesium levels back to normal and in doing this you will enable good production of testosterone.
5. Use the sunlight
The obvious thing that’s lost during the winter months is bright natural light. In the summer months, your body can make positive use of natural light as long as you have adequate levels of vitamin D. You can spend 30 – 60 minutes outdoors and easily boost your body’s testosterone level – it’s not a case of having to sunbathe and risk sunburn or melanoma.
6. Use simple solutions to get testosterone levels boosted directly
All of the solutions we suggested above will use normal body functions to try and restore testosterone levels. There are also a few more direct ways that can do it directly, by adding testosterone directly. One of these is the advanced cream AndroForte® that was developed and patented by Lawley Pharmaceuticals, an Australian company that specializes in the manufacture of pharmaceutical grade bioidentical testosterone. AndroForte can be easily applied to the bare skin, is absorbed quickly and directly boosts testosterone levels within a few days.
Welcome to the fun of summer. Add to the pleasure by keeping yourself fit, well rested. Properly fed, and make sure that your body has the right level of the hormones that promote your sex drive.
